YILDIRIM MUNICIPALITY ACCESSIBLE LIVING CENTER

The project, prepared for the Bursa Yıldırım Municipality, is designed as a center where disabled and elderly citizens can benefit from care, education, and healthcare services. Located in a dense and unplanned area east of Bursa, the project site faces two significant challenges:

Traffic congestion and noise from the Bursa-Ankara highway located just north of the site, and

The gas station located on the northern perimeter.

Furthermore, the key decision was to transform the parking area located on the south side of the site, which appeared inaccessible due to the approximately 7-meter elevation difference, into an opportunity. The advantage of the communication between the building and the park in the project planning section was ultimately realized through the interpretation of the program. Accordingly, spaces with high usage and technical requirements (pool, conference hall, etc.), which the administration desired to be accessible to all users, were planned on lower levels, close to the entrance. This created the potential for individual spaces such as workshops, classrooms, therapy rooms, and nursing rooms to be relocated to higher levels, providing a connection with the park. Above the +8.00 level, a fragmented, human-scale massing structure was designed to allow users to experience the building without breaking away from the neighborhood, perhaps without fear. This massing also allows for a connection with the park, the landscape to extend into the building, allowing users to access the landscape without straying from the building, and the ability to participate in some outdoor activities. With these features, the Yıldırım Municipality Accessible Living Center achieves a refined and advanced program interpretation that fulfills its purpose.
